In the spirit of Martin Luther King, Jr. and their desire to be servant leaders, the Jr. High Leadership Class researched the needs of our community and how they could best respond. They discovered that a lot of community organizations really need baby items. That seemed like a need they could help to meet.
The class created a mission statement: helping those that help those who can’t themselves and decided to host a Baby Shower Spirit and Serve Week. This week, Jr. High Students were encouraged to donate baby items such as diapers, wipes, blankets, books, clothes, etc. to be donated to local charities such as the Pediatric Interim Care Center, Mary’s Place, Westside Baby and Hope Link. The week long “Baby Shower” included dress up days, baby shower games at lunch and, of course, cake!
Tuesday – Dress up like a baby – onesies, bibs, pacifiers.
Wednesday – Dress up like what you wanted to be when you grew up.
Thursday – Dress up like your favorite children’s book character.
Friday – Nap time! (sweats, blankets, slippers, etc.)
Donated items are still coming in and piling up in classrooms. It’s inspiring to see the compassion, creativity and fun in this student-led activity!
