Brrr, it’s cold out!
We’ve had a few snowy days this school year. As we’ve experienced, inclement weather or unexpected events can cause school closures or late starts. When a decision is made to close school or to schedule a late start, that information is disseminated to the King’s Community as soon as possible via the following methods:

  • The Public Schools Emergency Communication System (PSECS) – this service allows us to broadcast late starts or closures on most local TV and radio stations. On TV, these messages are usually scrolled across the screen during local programming.
  • Parent Alert text message to King’s families.
  • Email message to King’s families.
  • Our information line 206-289-7997 – the message on this line will be updated, typically by 6:00 a.m., if there is a change in the normal school schedule.

Information will include any changes in bus routes and whether school is two hours late or closed. If school begins two hours late, all programs – King’s Preschool, King’s Kids Club, Elementary, Jr. High and High School – will begin at 10:10am. Please note that if the school is operating with a late start due to weather conditions, any King’s student may use the school’s bus system on a one-time basis (at no charge), even a student who is not a regular subscriber to this service. If no announcements are made, please assume that school is in session as normal and that buses are on their regular routes.

3rd, 4th, 5th & 6th Grade Parents:  Host a MeySen Academy Student – See Details Attached!
We are looking for 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th grade families who would be interested in hosting our friends from Meysen Academy in Japan!  Please open your homes to host 2 students.  We need 27 homes!   It is a wonderful experience!  Please call the office at 206-546-7258 for more details!

Grandparent’s Day – March 2 from 8:15-11:45 a.m.
It is important that Grandparents who were included on your invitation request RSVP to Christy Wolyniak, [email protected] or call 206-546-7305 as soon as possible ensure accurate numbers.  Deadline to RSVP is February 23.

In order to help with parking and traffic, if at all possible, please drop off grandparents with your children at their schools and plan on picking them up after the event. Shuttle buses will take elementary grandparents to Schirmer Auditorium for the opening welcome.  Those with wheel chair needs/mobility issues can be dropped off directly at Schirmer.

For grandparents who are driving to campus, we have some parking available at King’s Garden Gym, and parking on the elementary campus after 8:20am.

Re-enrollment for 2017-2018
Be sure to re-enroll ($225) to ensure priority student placement for next year.  We are currently interviewing new students for 2017-2018.

Financial Aid Deadline for 2017-2018 – February 15, 2017
Go directly to online.factsmgt.com/aid to apply.  Further financial aid information is available in the documents section on ParentsWeb and at www.kingsschools.org.

King’s Elementary Spelling Bee 2017
4th, 5th and 6th grade students will participate at the class, grade, and school spelling bee during the month of February.   Families may visit www.myspellit.com for study lists and an additional pdf practice list is attached.  Fourth-Sixth Grade teachers will compile a list of words and conduct a written competition the week of February 13 – 17.   The school competition will be held on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at 1:15pm in the elementary gym.  The Regional Spelling Bee is on Sunday, March 19, 2017, at 1:00pm in Seattle’s Town Hall.

King’s Open House This Sunday – Invite your friends!
We could use your help to spread the word about King’s. Please invite your friends to attend our open houses for elementary and preschool this Sunday, February 12th, at 2:00 p.m. Because so many of our referrals come from King’s families, we offer the Win-Win Program for our domestic students. The Win-Win program is designed to thank King’s families for referring friends and families.  A tuition discount of $500 per new student is available. Please turn RIGHT ONLY when exiting the lot.  Do not turn left.  Thank you!

North Carpool
NO DOUBLE DROP-OFFS.  When the line stops ALL students in the car need to get OUT of the car immediately.  Please pull up, stop and let out all your students at the same time.

Box Tops for Education
Save your box tops and bring them to the Elementary Library or Office.

King’s Wear

Annual Magazine Renewal and New Subscription Event
If you would like to renew or subscribe to new magazines for the coming year, the online portal is available for your convenience. A portion of each order will go to our school and be used for curriculum enrichment at the elementary. Just go to the website for a list of selections. The website is available 365 days a year for your convenience! If you have any questions, please contact the school office and Mr. Kelly will provide assistance.

Office Communications:
When you are emailing the office, please be sure to email both Mrs. de Langen at [email protected] and Miss Soriano at [email protected]. Any change in student pick-up at the end of the day needs to go through the office.  This is the only way to be sure your student gets the message.  If you send an email to the teacher, he/she may not be available to respond due to teaching students.  Please Call Mrs. de Langen or Miss Soriano at 206-546-7258.
