Boys Track and Field Team Takes First at State; Girls Take Home Third

Our King’s boys won the Class 1A State Boys Track & Field Championship, their 7th state title in the last 10 years! In all, they earned 67 points, 17 more than 2nd place Deer Park. Caleb Perry took 1st individually in the 100m dash (11.03 seconds) and 200m dash (21.84 seconds) and as part of two relay teams, the 4×100, which also included Brennon Blevins, Silas Newby and Nii Engman, and the 4×400, which included Connor McElmurry, Silas Newby and Matt Jackson.

Matt Jackson also won an individual championship in the 800m run with a time of 1:53.89. Other winners included Luke Wick, 2nd in the pole vault, Pierce Papke, 7th in the 300 intermediate hurdles, Chewy Zevenbergen, 5th in the high jump, and Peter Kulits, 6th in the triple jump.

Our girls team placed 3rd in State. Naomi Smith took 4th in the 1600m and 3200m races. Emma Culberson placed 3rd in the 300m low hurdles and 6th in the 100m high hurdles. Maddie Nielsen placed 3rd in the high jump and 4th in the triple jump, Tirzah Pilet took 3rd in the discus and Nicole Jacobson earned 4th in the shot put.
