48 King’s High School DECA students were in Bellevue, Washington for the 2018 DECA State Career Development Conference (SCDC) last weekend. Students were eager to compete in the Individual Series and written paper events, as they were given the chance to prove all the hard work they put into their projects for the past 7 months.
Students in Mrs. Morris’s Introduction to Marketing and Advanced Marketing classes competed in the Area 2 Competition back in January, advancing to the SCDC Competition held last week. Whether it was their first time attending the State Conference or their fourth time, the students were all taken aback when stepping into Meydenbauer Center Thursday afternoon. With the largest number of attendees in Washington DECA history, the students found themselves in the middle of a sea of navy and black, paired with dress shoes and high heels.
In-between competition events, students were given the freedom to explore the city, making memories and new friends. The weekend came to an end on Friday night, when all 48 students and 4 adults piled into a restaurant for their annual SCDC DECA Dinner. In a meeting led by King’s DECA Chapter President, Abby Weeks, and 2018-2019 DECA Area 2 President, Drew Brennan, students were able to reflect on the weekend full of competition, socializing, and fun.
After the Awards Ceremony on Saturday morning, King’s DECA students came out triumphant and eager for the International Career Development Conference (ICDC)! A total of 21 students qualified to advance onto ICDC in their competitive events and an additional 3 students were selected to attend the competition through an educational Academy Conference.
Congratulations to all 21 King’s DECA students who will be attending the International Career Development Conference in Atlanta, Georgia from April 21-24 at the Georgia World Congress Center. The best of luck to our Knights!
