Students in the Class of 2018 weren’t the only ones to sign letters of declaration this week. Coach Shapiro held a football team signing and luncheon today for all boys 8th through 11th grade who want to sign up for next year’s KHS football team. They each signed a letter of intent, received a T-shirt and enjoyed pulled pork sandwiches, chips, watermelon and cookies served by parent volunteers.
“We’ll take any boy who wants to play,” said Shapiro. “Big or small, they all get play time. There is a myth that says football is a large man’s sport. It’s not true. There are 5’6” players in the NFL.”
As new players signed up today, seasoned teammates joked around with the coaches. The love and respect between the coaches and players lit up the room. One parent commented, “I’ve never met a coach who puts discipleship above winning the way that Coach Shapiro does. Our boys know that someone is always in their corner and it helps them to believe in themselves.”
We wish our team the best as they head into the 2018-19 season!
