New Preschool Teachers
Hi, my name is Michelle Biederman and I am thrilled to be a part of your child’s classroom this year at Kings Preschool! I am excited about working at King’s Preschool, a place where my passion for teaching and my love for Christ can be woven together. I am looking forward to meeting each of the students in the prekindergarten classroom and getting to know them and their families.
Hello! My name is Rachel Decker, and I am so excited to be a new teacher at King’s Preschool! I love teaching preschool and have worked in preschool classrooms through internships and student teaching in Virginia. I love being inspired by creative young minds and I am so excited to start this new school year with you and your child!!!
Hi I’m Mrs. Erin Maas! I love to serve the Lord through my work with children at King’s Preschool. I am a graduate of Trinity Lutheran College where I studied Child, Youth & Family ministry and education. When I’m not working with kids, I enjoy spending time with family, baking goodies, and sewing.
Hi, I’m Mikayla Morgan. I attended King’s Preschool when I was a child and it feels great to be back working here. I have been working at King’s Preschool for about three months. I am currently going to school to get my AA in Early Childhood Education. In my free time, I love playing sports and hanging out with my friends and family.
Hello! My name is Haili Taylor and I am the Assistant Teacher in Yellow Room this year! I am excited for what is to come throughout this school year and know that your children will bring so much joy to the classroom. I look forward to meeting all of you!
Hello, my name is Jennifer Johnson. I am an assistant teacher in the yellow room this year. I previously worked as the children’s ministry administrator at my church and I have also worked at Cedar Springs Camp. I have always enjoyed working with kids from as far back as I can remember.
New Elementary Teachers
Ms. Debra Lavery – I am excited to be at King’s School this year as the Literacy Interventionist. I look forward to teaching students on how to improve their literacy skills and self-confidence using researched based strategies. I feel honored to teach at a Christian school and I am thankful that God has lead me to King’s Schools.
My name is Nathalie Ariadne and I am teaching Vocal Music at King’s Elementary School. I was born and raised in Indonesia and came to the US in 1997 where I attended Seattle Pacific University for my Music Education degree. I am so thankful to be part of King’s family and I can’t wait to see what God has planned for this year!
Tiffany Davis – Teaching is an absolute passion of mine and I am so very excited and thankful that God’s path has lead me back home to King’s where I had the privilege of attending K-12. My goal for the year is to connect with students, helping them grow in their relationships with Jesus as well as create those life lasting memories like the ones I still hold close to my heart. I cannot wait to see what the Lord has in store for this year!
My name is Jaime Green and I am so excited to be teaching 2nd grade at King’s this year. I love teaching and always strive to make learning hands on, interactive and engaging. When I am not teaching, I love to spend time with my two children, Averie who is in 5th grade, Declan who is in the Spanish Immersion 2nd grade class and my husband Tyler. I love the King’s community and I am so grateful to be a part of it!
Hi! My name is Deysi Hurd. I was born in El Salvador and grew up in sunny, Southern California. I love being a wife, mom and a teacher. Two years ago my husband received a promotion and we relocated to Edmonds, Washington. This will be my first year teaching at King’s Elementary and I’m extremely humbled, excited, and blessed to be part of God’s plan in cultivating world changers. This year, my goal is to inspire and shape young hearts to be passionate about God, love learning, and to believe in themselves.
Tina Leazer – I am so excited to be a new teacher for King’s Elementary School’s third grade! I have spent the last seventeen years homeschooling my two beautiful daughters through their tenth grade year, as well as giving piano instruction in my local community. I am passionate about teaching and look forward to continuing my love for education by teaching here at King’s Elementary. My goal is always to inspire the students to see themselves as capable and the learning process as worthy!
New Junior High Teachers
Mr. Doug McCardle will be teaching 7th grade math and the leadership class. Mr. McCardle comes to us from Meadowdale Middle School where he taught 7th grade math for 17 years. Mr. McCardle’s Collaboratory will focus on using math creatively in real world situations. If his last name sounds familiar, it should! He is the husband of our drama director, Janna McCardle. They have two children who graduated from King’s.
Mr. Ryan Kyler will be teaching 7th grade Life Science and the robotics program. He is an experienced science teacher, having taught for years at both the middle school and high school levels. Together, he and Mrs. Adams will be teaching the Hunger Expedition Collaboratory. He and his wife have four young children, three of whom will be starting at King’s Elementary this year.
Mr. Dan Kirkham will be teaching our 8th grade English class, our Washington State History class and our “sticky ideas” Collaboratory. He joins us from Minnesota where he taught high school English for many years. He and his family just arrived in Seattle and are getting to know this part of the country and the King’s community.
Ms. Jillian Kemper comes to us from across the street! Having taught at King’s Elementary for the last several years, she will be teaching US History and the American Music Project elective. She will also be teaching the Resiliency Café Collaboratory and one section of 7th grade math along with Mr. McCardle.
Mr. Mark Teeter also “crossed the street” from the elementary where he taught 6th grade for several years. He will be teaching 8th grade Bible and will be running the Guided Study Hall program along with Mrs. Peterson. He will also be teaching a “maker space” Collaboratory called Push Play. He and his wife have two sons who attend King’s.
New High School Teachers
Mr. Scott Dotson will be teaching 12th grade Civics and Contemporary World Issues, AP Government and 10th grade World History. Mr. Dotson comes from Mountlake Terrace High School where he did his teaching internship in teaching AP European History, Honors English and World History 10 classes. Mr. Dotson is a graduate from University of Washington, Bothell with his undergraduate in American and Ethnic Studies and is in the final quarters of his Masters of Education. Mr. Dotson is passionate about students discovering history!
Mrs. Dionna Leach will be teaching Healthy Living and Low Intensity Fitness this year. Mrs. Leach grew up locally and graduated from King’s High School. She pursued her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Sociology at the University of Hartford while playing four years of collegiate volleyball. Previously, Mrs. Leach worked at Seattle Academy of Arts and Science where she provided academic support to the sophomore and junior classes, taught Mock Trial and strength and conditioning courses. She was also the head coach of the school’s volleyball program.
Mrs. Lauren Borrero will be teaching English 10 and Pre-AP English 10. Mrs. Borrero was born and raised in California where she obtained her B.A. and teaching credential from California State University Bakersfield. After graduation, she taught English and journalism. Following the 2017 school year, she and her husband, Isaac, moved to Seattle where Mrs. Borrero has spent the last year pursuing her Master’s degree in Digital Education Leadership at Seattle Pacific University and serving as a substitute at University Prep.
Mr. Eric McConnaughey joins the Bible department teaching 10th grade Bible. For the last 10 years he has followed God’s leading as a co-youth pastor with his wife Kelly, most recently at Aurora Community Church. He has served in many roles in his denomination as a speaker, youth pastor trainer, and camp director. He had the joy of being a part of the King’s community over the past two years as a school bus driver and is excited to continue working with the amazing teachers, staff, and students that make King’s such an inspirational place.
Mr. Dan Taylor will be joining the Physical Education department leading our freshmen in Health and Fitness. He earned his undergraduate degree in Physical Education and Exercise Science at Seattle Pacific University. In addition, he also has a Masters of Education in School Counseling from Seattle Pacific University. He has been teaching in the Edmonds School District since 1999, more recently leading the students at Meadowdale High School since 2005. Mr. Taylor is currently our Lady Knights Varsity basketball coach.
Mr. Kyle Yount is entering King’s High School as a technology teacher leading the tech ambassador program and teaching both web development and programming courses. Mr. Yount grew up in Marysville, Washington before moving with his family to Southern California where he would spend his teenage years. After having graduated from Biola University studying computer science, he moved back to Seattle and focused his career on freelance web development and information technology.
