DECA Chapter Public Relations Project
The King’s DECA Chapter is starting a campaign this week to introduce a new approach toward mental health challenges on campus. Once a taboo subject, mental health at King’s has broken out of the stigma of the past. Adapting to the rest of the world, more people on campus are aware of mental health setbacks and illnesses, but the biggest step still poses a challenge to every student and teacher on campus: speaking up.
Through the use of social media, promotional flyers, and other Public Relations methods, the chapter is encouraging students to “Seize the Awkward” when it comes to mental health. They are spreading the important message that it doesn’t matter how you ask — all that matters is that you do. In the coming week and into early January, students will have many opportunities to learn more about this topic and to get involved and in learning more about personal mental health. By starting conversations about mental health now, the chapter hopes to prepare students for the challenges they may face after King’s High School and into their college years.
When it comes to mental health, awkward silences don’t have to be a bad thing. Learn how you can #SeizetheAwkward with someone you care about at SeizeTheAwkward.org a campaign sponsored by the Ad Council, and help the King’s DECA Chapter begin to change how we address mental health on campus. Students can keep an eye out for more this week at school, and they can check out @keepinupwithkhs and @decakings on Snapchat.
At this busy time of year, it can seem like your to-do list just keeps getting longer and more complicated…if you have “donate item for the King’s Auction” on your list, we have tried to make it as easy as possible! Just click this link for the Amazon wishlist and select an item to donate – it will be shipped directly to the school, so it’s an easy one to cross off your list! The 36th annual Benefit Auction is on Friday March 15 and it truly takes our whole King’s village to make this spectacular event come together. We so appreciate every family’s efforts in contributing and thank you for thinking of this during your holiday shopping!
